All I want to know why?

 ‘All I want to know why?’ a short story by Sherwood Anderson. The narrator is unnamed and crazy for horse. He stays in Kentucky and every time talking about horse. He gets up early morning and go to watch horse training.

One day he drunk cigarette and suffered from fever. His mother scolds him but father didn’t.  Henry Reback, a rich person, a friend of narrator. His father is a gambler. On his birthday he got bicycle, golden watch, shoes etc. The narrator said I don’t need these all from my father and indirectly we all need things from our parents.

Once narrator and his friend like; Henry Terner, Hanry Reback, Tom Tumberton and Bildad Johnson Went to Beckersville without asking parent to watch horse race. When they went to Baskerville at that time they have Bildad, a Negro he is taking care of all four. The narrator observe everything and he wish to be a Negro.

‘I wish I was a Nigro’

He thinks the white are always cheater and you can't trust them.

 There they enjoyed a lot. The narrator impressed by Jerry Tillford, a horse trainer. All know that Sunstreak will win the match and finally he worn. The narrator wants to stay close with Jerry Tillford and so he followed him at night. Jerry went into a house which was prohibited for children so narrator waited outside. Later on he heard some noise so he went near the window. He peeps up and found Jerry with prostitute. He felt guilt that what is the need of Jerry to do this all.

He was love to Sunstreak and he trained by Jerry so he like Jerry. After that incident he disappointed and thought why he has done this and that he wants to know why?

Sherwood described the father - son relation that son always want attention from father whether he scold or keep love. Narrator’s father didn’t say anything to him even he done a wrong thing. Sometimes he is doing such wrong things to get his father’s attention.

The narrator likes Sunstreak but there is no need to keep relation with trainer. We all have right to live own life. It just likes author and their work. If we like any work then we should not see it with the author. It is not that if we like work then we must like author or his/her other work. We should be judge individually.
